How Tertiary Institutions Emboldens Tyranny In Nigeria.

The Nigerian tertiary institutions of education have aided and abated tyranny in the society by shutting down dissenting views in the university, polytechnics, collages of educations, monotechnics and other tertiary institutions of learning through delibrate policies of weakening students pressure groups by appointing subservients as members of care- taker committee.

They killed the aluta spirit on our campuses and clamp down on students that protest against the injustices on our campuses. They ban SUG’s and rusticate and expel students at will for partaking in protests which had brought about fear,cowardice in the lives of our today youths while suffering in the hands of these evil politicians.

During the military era, the Nigerian students were fearless, the protested against government policies that doesn’t favor the students and growth of education at large, noticeable amongst the protest was the Ali must go protest, the then minister of education and it was a success, who dares that today? Not even a protest to remove a VC or Rector can be allowed today in the so called democratic dispensation.

Labour Union, trade union amongst other pressure groups are extension of the government now, all thanks to tertiary institutions of learning that have used fear factor to intimidate students and they’re succeeding in the anticts while the larger society is decaying.

Another reason could be that the campuses are filled with young boys and girls not like before when tertiary institutions are for elders. But I don’t want to give that a credence and excuse to their wanton excesses which when not checkmated, the thieving and corrupt politicians will be an all round winner of this ugly trend aided by higher institutions of learning hierarchy.

The Nigerian youths can not protest and vehemently resist bad governance and anti masses policies. The recent increase in PMS prices, high inflation, unemployment, nepotism, impunity and other gross misconduct of the government is more than enough to make Nigerians troop to the street to register their displeasure and provide alternative routes for the government but hell no, their brains have been subjected to fear right from the institutions of learning that going against the will of the authorities is not just wrong but a crime. This is the debacle that we’ve found ourselves. NANS used to be a body to recon with then, because they were resolute and determined in their endeavors to fight for a just course and ensure students best interest are not relegated to the background and remained at the top burner.

SUG and NANS must returned back to it’s glory days and a free, fair and credible sequence of elections must be conducted to reflect the wishes, goals and aspirations of the Nigerian students.
